I have a pre 95 ban Bushmaster and the lower is marked .223/5.56 but I do not see the marking on the upper. I'm the second owner and the first told me it was all original. Should there be caliber markings on the barrel? If it helps the serial is L0659xx

Pre 94 Bushmaster lowers or pre-ban lowers start at serial #  63000 and under. The Barrel should be stamped BMP 1/9 5.56 NATO.There would be no other markings on the upper but the forge mark on the right hand side above the elevation wheel.

If there are no markings and you believe it's all Bushmaster, the Barrel could be a Bushmaster DCM 1:8 twist competition. These barrels came with no markings.

The barrel marking should be on the top of the barrel between the FSB and the muzzle.  The barrel markings on both of my Pre-Ban BM Uppers (20" and 16" HBAR) look like the photo posted by doc_Zox.

Barrel marking would not be under the handguards unless the barrel is a "Dissapator".  I've never seen a Pre-Ban BM barrel that was made in ME that was not marked.  Doesn't mean that they don't exist, just that I've never seen one (I don't remember what the markings on the NRA DCM A2 Competition Rifles looked like).
