I have a 16 inch barrel AR-15 in .223 with collapsible stock. I use an H-3 buffer . My friend has same rifle but has a hydraulic buffer and it shoots great. I would like to minimize my recoil like a hydraulic buffer but have the reliability of a standard buffer.  Thanks in advance for any help on this

There's really no recoil to begin with. I would look at maybe getting a muzzle brake or a comp.

Slash's HSS buffer and Wolff XP action spring would be my recommendation for a carbine length gas system.

if you are having recoil problems with that, get a heavier rifle or a  brake.

I run a DD T2 buffer (same as Spikes) and a Sprinco enhanced power (blue) buffer spring in my DD M4 16" carbine and have yet to have any problems what-so-ever with all kinds of different ammo. Runs like a charm.
In conjunction with the Battle Comp MD that's on it, it's like shooting a .17 HMR.

+1 hydraulic buffers suck. Sooner or later they will leak out into your receiver.
