So i am going to start a new SHTF rifle. and for the last 6-7 years that spot was filled by a AR that i put together. but i want to take it up a notch, so My choices are a Noveske W/NSR, or a Springfield M1A socom ii with rails. I have shot the M1A but not the noveske. They both would have all the same add on features for optics and what not but what im looking at is the core platform. I dont care about price because both are in budget. so which would you pick and why?
Like i said i want this as a SHTF weapon for targets between 0-500 meters thanks |

SOCOM is a great rifle but it is heavy as a hunk of lead and very unbalanced the SOCOM II is even worse. I speak from experience on this one I had a SOCOM 16 years ago and sold it to my cousin as his ranch rifle and I got a M1a Loaded
Have you considered a FAL, SCAR 17, or AR-10 to fit a 308. The Noveske is a great choice for a quality rifle. Any AR-15 will fit the bill for a 0-500 rifle even an SBR in the right hands can do that. What are you currently using as a SHTF rifle and where does it fall short? Can it be upgraded to fit the roll you need? |
| it doesnt so much fall short as i want a better quality rifle. its currently a DPMS with a chrome lined barrel thats just a slightly older gun. I have changed and added a few things but in the end its still a DPMS which has never failed me but id like something thats just "better". I looked at the scar but the ones i have found are $2500 starting and go up where as I can get a m1a or a noveske for $1800 ish. And i know about the weight but at close quarters shooting the .308 I think ill be ok with the weight. I dont much like the FAL. I have shot a few of them and they just dont feel right to me. I also looked at getting a ACR but never shot one and not quite sure what i could compare it to. it was kinda my #3 on the list i just really prefer to shoot a firearm or something that's an equivalent before i buy one. I also looked into 6.5 grendel and 6.8 as a round but it seems like people either love it or hate it. and im on the fence with the 2 rounds. |

For the money you have you almost have enough for a Tavor if you want a bull pup. Otherwise I would suggest a good quality AR Noveske for sure will fit the bill but you might also consider the Knights SR-15 for the money you have that is what I would choose hands down. |
| Had same idea. Look at ASA SPR's. they had a very BAD REP a few years back and I found one for 1500. Super nice shooter, still working out the details. Eotech on now but have 2-12 for 600m range. A real sleeper company with great machining and accuracy ( I love accuracy) look for a sale or get Laru... |

I'm using cryogenically treated springs (ejector, extractor, and action/buffer) produced by Tactical Springs, LLC (sister company to Sprinco USA) in my AR15 14.5" M4 Variant due to the benefits cryogenics offers. The extractor makes use of a 5-coil spring with a black insert and viton o-ring (same setup in SOPMOD Bolt Upgrade Kit). For my buffer spring I chose the enhanced (blue) spring. As for my bolt carrier group I went with a Rubber City Armory Enhanced BCG for its black nitrided finish, carpenter 158 bolt, 8620 carrier, staked gas key, and it is also cryogenically treated. For buffer weight, I went with a H2 buffer.
My thoughts were what I would need to do to build an "end of day" SHTF weapon. My upper receiver components were based around my barrel's dwell length being 7 inches, and a carbine gas port measuring 0.0625 inches. |
