You got it. Iron sights and ammo. Maybe a sling also. You got a decent carbine at a great price. Enjoy and shoot the hell out of it.

You nailed it. Get some irons and ammo. Go shoot it. Decide what you need based on your shooting experience with the gun in it's basic configuration with the factory sling. For me, that ended up being an aimpoint.

Don't drink the "learn with Iron sights first" cool aid. go to the EE and pic up a sling and a used Aimpoint with a mount and go get somebody to teach you how to run it properly.

Whatever you want as long as you feed it ammo! Some sort of sighting system that you like is my recommendation though.

Because everyone know Optics are 100% reliable 100% of the time.

First thing you should get is a night vision optic and an infrared laser.

Just kidding.

Ammo. Lots of ammo. Unless you shop where I shop for ammo.
In that case, go with the night vision.

Boy, that's no kidding!

Sounds like the OP is on the right track.
As far as the idea of "screw irons, just get an optic", screw that.  Even my dead-reliable Aimpoint Micro once shut off on me (once), because I had failed to give the battery cap a oomph when I screwed it in.

get a red dot, iron sight is not necessary, why you think S&W left out the iron sight in OR? if you want iron get the sport version, cheaper as well
