Just swapped out a 6 position stock for an old school A2 buttstock on a 16 inch mid length carbine. My question is do I use the rifle length buffer and spring or the carbine length buffer and spring.  And what is a H buffer and what is it's role

No parts interchange between the rifle system (A1/A2) and the carbine system (collapsible)
Always start testing with a standard buffer and a standard spring.
You can "experiment heavier" if you wish once you get the rifle running.
Use full power ammo for initial testing.

Use the carbine buffer/spring in the carbine receiver extension. The H buffer is about an ounce heavier than the standard carbine buffer. Either works well in my 16" midlengths so I went to the H in each.

After reading my own post maybe I was not making myself clear  I have a rock river mid length carbine 16 inch barrel it came with a collapsible stock . I ordered an A2 buttstock  and installed it  do I use the longer buffer spring and buffer that came with that stock or do I use the shorter spring and buffer that was used in the collapsible stock ?  Also what is a H buffer and what is it's role

Yes, you must use the longer buffer/spring in the rifle RE. Forget about the H buffer, it's for the carbine RE that you removed.
