I currently run a carbine buffer but have wanted to try a H and H2 buffer in my mid length. I really do not want to shell out for two buffers.
Would I be able to buy a H3 and take that and the carbine buffer apart to make a H and H2 buffer with the combined weights? Seems like a simple roll pin removal but would like to get your expert opinion first. Thanks! |
| Thank you for the replays! Being that I am a resident of the republic of New York my break is pinned and welded. Not really looking to cut it off just to replace the gas block. I might just buy a single H buffer and call it a day. The gun currently jumps and moves all over the place while the bipod is mounted. Hoping this would help with that some. I am new to the AR world though so I might have no idea what I am talking about lol. |

most people run h1 buffers in mids and they work fine. i say go ahead and buy the H3 buffer and play around with buffer weights though. even if you find you cant go to a heavier buffer, you will eventually have another rifle that needs it anyways so it's not wasted money.
car buffers have 3 steel weights h1 buffers have 2 steel weights 1 tungsten weight h2 buffers have 1 steel weight 2 tungsten weights h3 buffers have 3 tungsten weights yes you can knock the roll pin out of the back of the buffer and swap the weights around as needed. |

Spikes ST-T2 FTW. I have one in ALL of my AR15 platform rifles, along with M16(full auto) bolt carrier groups. To most who use the T2, the tungsten powder smooths out the recoil impulse and also quiets down the noise heard when the weights inside a regular buffer all come in contact at rear most travel of the buffer. It also, in my mind bridges the gap between the H and the H2 buffer.
I would give one of those a try first. You can pick one up for around $38.00. |

High speed video has shown the spikes st-t2 to have more bolt bounce then a conventional buffer. As in, they don't work that well. |

My guess would be that you are referencing the Vuurwapenblog.com video. This is the video. High Speed Bolt Video. The only one I was able to tell any difference in was the Rifle buffer. To me, all the others looked very similar. Also, that was one high speed video. Keep in mind no rifle is the same. I haven't had any issues in any of my rifles, believe it or not lol. Do I shoot as much as people in a class/instructors? No. But I can honestly say the combo of FA BCG and T2 works for me. Not to mention it is the smoothest shooting setup I've run. |
