Hello,

I'm looking to buy a real, honest & for real Colt AR in .223. I'm looking at one from 1994, and it has a "sear block"  and SP1 bolt carrier.

My other ARs include a "posh" Daniel Defense, run of the mill Bushmaster (from the early 90s) and a DPMS--all of which take mil spec parts. This is great, as any spare parts work in all of the rifles.

Does Colt still use proprietary parts and a sear block? I can't machine it out & was planning on a Geissele trigger--but I'm not sure it will work with the sear block.....

Or, perhaps I should pass on the Colt & consider another Bushmaster, DPMS or Daniel Defense rifle.......

Thank you for the help.

There is a company (can't remember which right now) that will remove sear blocks for under $100. The new ones come with a webbed piece of metal in there serving as a block, but not the pinned block. I have a Colt from 1994, and another concern is that it has large trigger pins. None of that matters to me though because I like the heavy stock triggers.

Adco does it, $95.

You may want to go to the Colt section of the Industry section. The larger take down pins that Colt used are not a issue as you can buy a bushing that will allow any upper to be used. As for the triggers and the use of a Sear block check out this link.

Sear Block

But please, go read the threads at the top of the Colt section, lots of good solid info there that you can count on.

Geissele sells triggers for the older colts with sear blocks installed & 170 trigger pins I own 2 of them S3G & SSA.
Also if it's a 1994 Colt it should have regular sized push pins so no adapter needed to change uppers & everything is mil-spec.
I would shave the sear block & install a Colt F/A Bolt carrier I did mine I'll post photos later tonight.

Pic of my 94 Colt I shaved the sear block & installed a geissele S3G trigger & replaced the Sp1 carreir with a F/A carrier.
