im new to the ar world,....im currently building my first ar. my barrel is a 16" BCM socom barrel with a VLTOR muzzle break. i bought a VLTOR low profile gas black and a mid length gas tube...i guess i was wrong in the gas tube size, seems to be a little longer than i needed so should i reorder or has anybody cut one to size?

You can cut one to size, but to do it right you would need special tools to properly flair the operating end, to properly engage and seal in the carrier key for reliable cycling. Just cutting one to length, that end would allow too much gas to escape unused. If you look at the back end, you will see a flair on the end similar to a compression fitting on a plumbing supply line. |
