My Brothers Girlfriend has a Daewoo K2 she wants me to sell. (Apparently never fired)
He father is into guns and she has had it for a while, but not sure how much she knows about it. I know next to nothing about it. So Gunbroker only has 3 listed and 2 have no bids. The one that has bids is at $1300 Is that a reasonable price? I realize it should have some collector value Adjustable gas system and folding stock are badass features. Id buy it if it was more compatible with the modern AR Parts-wise. Any general information on marking to look for or anything else are appreciated . |

Is it an original-configuration K2, or one of those bastardized thumbhole stock versions?
The K2 is an interesting variation on the AR concept, with an AR-like lower and a short-stroke piston upper. They use standard AR magazines, and are retry cool looking. Nowadays, a K2 should pull anywhere from $1,000 to $1,400 or so depending on condition, with less for a thumbhole version. Daewoo is no long ere making guns for import to the U.S. (anyone know where I could get some DH40 magazines?), so they're relatively rare. |

Thanks, I wasnt aware of a thumbhole stock version, im not sure what she has.
Was Stoeger the only importer? What is neutered on the Thumbhole version? Normal Post-Ban stuff? I know I need to figure out if it has a Collapsible, folding, or thumbhole, stock And a 1:12 or 1:7 Twist (maybe only one type was imported?) |
| First off a K2 is a long stroke gas piston design, not short stroke. I'm almost positive they have 1/7 barrels, but I'm not 100% on that. K2's will have side folding stocks. K1's are the telescoping wire stock. They are nice rifles, but the parts situation would be a concern. |

Yeah as im reading it seems the K2 is the specific model with the 1:7 barrel and folding stock.
Different stocks, twist rates, and importers have different model numbers/names (DR-200, MAX-II, AR-100, K1A1 ect...) Hopefully it is a K2 as she says, because that seems to be the most desirable. |

Stuff doesnt break very often and there is a steady supply of thumbhole guns being chopped up for parts.
I know someone who is very knowledgeable about these guns, his estimates of imported numbers was way higher than I imagined. For either pre ban or post ban, so there are quite a few of them floating around, at least compared to many other 1980s imported assault rifles. Its still the service rifle of South Korea, surprised parts aren't more available, but again I don't think they break enough to make it worth anyone's time to import parts. |

DR2000 is the thumbhole stock verison.
The K1/K2 is the full size/carbine rifle. Right now, I can't remember who may still have parts for either. But the is an AK gas piston system married to an AR15 lower. They are not bad rifles but has that rough outer surface looks. |

Great guns the Daewoo's, if you buy the .223/5.56 piston guns. The DI guns from what I recall, had a couple issues. I would not buy one in 7.62X39, they had many broken bolts over the years. I don't think the importers have anything to do with the model numbers. Kimber also imported some rifles. FALFILES has a Daewoo section. |
