Been awhile since I messed with a bone stock M4, picked up another the other day - with an H buffer I'm getting 2:30 ejection, H2 getting 3:00 - 55gr Fiocchi. Am I overgassed, or is this about normal? All FN, 14.5 PW.

It arrived!!  I've been hunting down a 1st gen M962 for way too long.  I really wanted one for my sopmod build.  Had to swap some parts around with other MU lights but it really fits this 02-03 rifle!

Vero Beach 5 rib will be here this week to fill the void behind it.

@Tigwelder1971 I forgot to jot down measurements, but mine are identical in dimensions for John Masen Recoil Pads fitment. Can't speak for all of the polymer iterations, though. I would assume that nobody with a CAR stock would have fitment issues, especially with the manner that the pad is secured to the stock.

Kinda got out of clones awhile back - been running a KAC Mod 2 CQB. Got a nostalgic itch for my two service rifles, so I recently picked up a Colt AR15A4 and an FN M4A1. The Eotech is a placeholder until my TA31RCO comes in.

Thanks, I definitely overpaid for it but you win some you lose some I guess.  I can't see the SW02/body color differences in person but I definitely see it in the picture.  The light came with a modern XM07 setup that got swapped over to another donor light that had the SW02.  In any case, I'm happy with how this represents the early 2000's in my collection!

As hard to find as they're I'm sure it was money well spent. I personally have not seen another clone with this gen 1 setup, though I'm sure they exist somewhere in this thread.
I'm torch collector myself so I appreciate the details.

Is this pretty much the Block 1 gen 1 stock or is it smaller? I remember when we got the m originally they had the sling loop on the top like this.

That is a repro of a basic CAR stock.

I've seen where there are different gens assigned, but no idea on differences. But yeah, B1 appropriate.

I know its a repro, but was wondering if it was smaller than the original m4 stock of the 90s and early 2000 that looked like that. Ik the original car stock was aluminum then they went to composite before the 80s for the car15 and colt commando.

It is dimensionally the same as a fiberlite/N1 CAR stock and aluminum CAR. Made by B5 for Brownells.

Ok so I guess my question is were the N1- car 15 stocks the same as the issued stocks for the block 1 and the m4 for the mid to late 90s?

Those are considered a Gen 3 carbine stock. It pretty much breaks down like this:

607 stock - Gen 1
Aluminum CAR stock - Gen 2
Fiberlite CAR stock (N1) - Gen 3
Waffle stock - Gen 4

I've seen a few pictures of sopmod's sporting the LMT L8A rear sight - which I love, but thought was a mk18 thing. Are these folks cloning examples seen in the wild, or just adjusting for personal preference?

Google "chopped Carry Handle"

Not uncommon to see this done on military rifles at the beginning of the GWOT within SOF

My ACOG is almost here and I'm curious about mounts. It's got the standard TA51 mount on it, but what else is kosher? I've seen and used LaRue in the past, I've seen Bobro, I'm sure A.R.M.S. is out there but I've missed them I guess, but has Geissele been used? Not interested in GG&G or ADM.

Also, I looked high and low for a riser that's ACOG specific, but I can't find KRAM spacers anywhere. I guess I'll use a KAC tri-mount because everyone else's risers are 1/2" or LaRue at 5/8". Does anyone other than KAC make a less than 1/2" riser?

Good luck....14.5's are hard to find right now.

I ended up just ordering a 6920 upper(16" barrel) and will probably send it off to JT @ Retro Works and have him cut it down to 14.7 and P&W the A2 back on for me. With a 14.7 he won't need to use an extended A2 or spacer.

Arms Unlimited has the 6920 uppers for a pretty good price right now.

That gun would be a Block 1 or 1.5.  Block 2s use the KAC RIS II handguards.  Its also now the standard M4A1 MWS as the big Army calls it.

Does a KAC FF RAS carbine vs M4 RAS change the designation at all? I know it's not a core item, but I keep leaning toward snagging a FF RAS.

So im not the most clone correct person.

But what am I looking at for a block 1 or 1.5 side sling mount.

Side sling swivel on fsb I assume?

Id prefer something like the cqd on the rear of the ras like the mk18 or even better a qd.

Any clone correct options I should consider?

From photos I have seen, it appears the Colt side sling swivel, under the FSB, is the correct front sling mount.  At the rear it seems to depend on the stock.  When mounting the side sling swivel, make sure it is mounted so the swivel will fold flat in the forward position, that allows the KAC panel to be slid off without removing the rail from the barrel.
