I currently have a 14.5" barrel with a BCM Mod 1 comp pinned and welded on. Im running a BCM lo pro gas block. The rail is a YHM lightweight rifle length quad rail. I want to change my rail to a Samson Evo series. Am I going to have to cut the comp off in order to slide the gas block off then the barrel nut  or will the barrel nut slide over the top of the gas block? I really dont want to ruin a $100 comp in order to get the barrel nut off.  Any help would be great, thanks!

take the barrel nut off, then remove the barrel. remove the barrel nut.

The gas block won't slide off the pinned comp, and the barrel nut won't slide off if the gas block is on. You're stuck with that barrel nut if you don't ditch the comp. Unless possibly, you carefully cut off this gas block, and then use a two piece screw on gas block.

The lightweight YHM is a free float rail which means you also have a YHM proprietary barrel nut.  The Samson bushing won't work with a YHM barrel nut.  A barrel nut won't fit over a low-pro gas block.

Ok next question. Will a standard barrel nut fit over a lo pro gas block? I have no qualms hacking off the YHM barrel nut if a standard barrel nut will fit over it.

What he said ^^^, and no, a standard barrel nut won't slip over the gas block either.

Wonder if the  YHM 2 piece specter gas block will fit under a rifle length samson evo rail...

Nope - the Specter gas block needs a rail at least 1 5/8" ID (1.625") but the Evo rail is only 1.56" ID.

Kinda' striking out aren't ya?

Vltor GB-2C might work for you.

Daniel Defense also makes a clamp on GB that fits under all their rails.  IIRC DD has one of the smallest internal diameters.

No, it won't.

I called VLTOR awhile ago and asked how wide it could stretch and if it would fit over a pinned muzzle device.  No go.

OP, you're likely going to have to cut it off.  But I will recommend that when you do and you pick a rail (such as the samson), that you pick one that uses the standard barrel nut.  Personally, I LOVE my Centurion C4 rail.

That's probably the best approach, or else keep what you have.
