What are the legal implications of non govt non law enforcement individuals possessing/owning mags or lowers that are marked for Law Enforcement Use only? |
|
Having LE-stamped mags was an issue during the 1994-2004 AWB. After the ban expired, anybody living in a state that allowed high-cap mags could legally own LE-stamped magazines. I belive that many, if not all, were even date-stamped. For about 6-12 months after the ban lifted, the market was flooded with LE-stamped mags for sale to the general public.
I've never seen LE-stamped lower receivers, but I would think that the serial number could easily trace back to a manufacture date. |

just be sure you know it wasn't stolen, and that's it's not full auto. I know the DOD is cracking down on stuff marked for the military only. But there are plenty of legit LEO only stuff out there. Mags have no serial numbers the dod cannot track mags, or sapi plates as far as I know, the only reason sapi plates are suspect is none have ever been released for surplus. NVG, lasers, firearms, radios all have serial numbers. Don't touch them. |

I have an Olympic AR 45 LEO rifle. I will be selling the lower once I get my CNC lower to make a pistol. Just checking to confirm I can sell it legitimately, yes I have FFL transfers. Yes, you can sell it, legally. As noted several times, this marking is a fossil of the 1994 ban law, which expired oil most 9 years ago. |
