Is it safe to paint my AR barrel with Rustoleum High Heat spray paint, or should I just shell out a little more money for something like Duracoat? I really do not want to purchase anything I have to bake on, any thoughts? |

What finish is on it right now?
I don't like spray paint, I understand it's cheap and can be redone easily. It looks like crap and quite frankly I wouldn't want to redo it repeatedly(unless your gun is a safe queen). Duracoat is ok, but it can discolor from high heat(unless it's the higher temp version, but even then....). If you're going to do it, do it right, Moly Resin or Cerakote, which do require some baking. |

I've had good success with it on small engine exhausts - gun barrel temps are child's play. Let it dry for 24 hours before heating though - I don't think they tell you that in the instructions. Also, it stinks BAD when it burns off the first time. JayC |
