Hey there, want to chrome plate a left hand BCG because well....various reasons. Less friction coefficient, easier to clean, shiny, etc. Found a shop here in ATX that can do it but..........
So the question is: Will .0002 of chrome plating have an effect on the firing of the rifle? ie.....will the BCG be too big to fire?

You wouldnt plate the bolt, only the carrier, right? The bolt is the high tolerance piece. It makes contact on 2 sides, in 2 axises, so any loss of clearance would be doubled. The carrier is more of a determination how much clearance you have in the upper you plan to use. Probably someone who has done this will add feedback. |
| There's different types of chrome plating... Most chrome plating is for decorative purposes, such as the chrome on a bumper or motorcycle. Most places that offer chrome plating offer this type of treatment. The other process is "hard chrome" and this is for industrial applications such as a bolt carrier. They are very different. If you get the wrong process, your bolt carrier could be worth nothing more than a tool steel paper weight. |

I run a left handed Stag AR15 so BCGs only come 1 way....factory black. Ok....here is the link to the plating services offered: http://www.mastersonchrome.com/plating-services.html
I am chrome-tarded. From the meager descriptions though, I assume I want the Flash plating....which is why I said that earlier in the OP. So, if I call these guys, what should I specifically be asking them? OR, do you have a recommendation for somewhere to ship my BCG to for plating? |
