My local gun dealer has a new Mega Arms billet AR15 with Shaw 1-7 Stainless twisted fluted 16" barrel, Nickel Borron BCG, Black Rain flash suppressor and charge handle. Tear drop forward assist. All stainless pins in receiver. Troy free float alpha rail. Includes one 30 round windowed PMAG and a tactical soft case.
Should I jump on it? Does anyone have any experience with Mega Arms? The gun shop is asking $1700. Any help would be greatly appreciated |

Mega is one of the best there is for receivers. They don't sell complete rifles though so somebody had to put that together and you'd have to decide if the other parts are something you'd want and if you trust the builder. What he said. It seems like someone built their dream gun and decided to sell it. It's a little rich for me but if you did the math and added the parts prices up it might be worth it if it's your idea of a "dream gun". |

Yes it does. Has some gimmick parts on it IMO, such as the twisted flute and stainless pins. Good pins are not stainless, for example. These things are there to catch your eye and get you to reach for your wallet. |

It may be worth buying though if you like it. Is the upper forged or a Mega billet? Ideally, the rifle should have been built using a matched Mega billet upper/lower. The tear drop forward assist sounds strange - retro part on a modern gun. If the parts are new, the rifle cost around $1500 to assemble. If the rifle is used, I wouldn't pay more than about $1200 for it. The gun sounds like someone's frankengun build. Ask them if you can test fire it (especially if it is used). If the gun ends up being a lemon, you will have no recourse for repair/warranty. If it shoots nice make a reasonable offer you are willing to pay. |
