| Does anyone know of a part that goes into a full auto lower to stop the weapon's safety from completing the turn to full auto? This would force the weapon to only be used in semi-auto mode. I have heard that this part is out there but have been unable to locate one. Any information would be helpful. |

There is a complicated sear lock that can be installed, but the simple and easiest thing is to just install a semi selector, or grind the bump off of the full auto selector for semi only function. He's right. A semi selector will fix your issue. It won't rotate past the semi point. You can even leave the balance of the auto parts installed. |

It's called a Lock Plate, and it goes by NSN 1005-00-233-9031.
Here's one on Ebay |

Quoted: Why would you turn a full auto in a semi-auto. WHY? If it is registered, just about everyone will gladly trade with you! Usually threads like this are from LE agency armorers that just received a bunch of DRMO M16s and need the quickest, cheapest solution to make them S/A before being deployed to officers. |

Oh ok, makes me sad though. Thanks for explanation. |

A friend of mine that is a department armorer called me yesterday asking the very same question as the OP. His dept had received several M16s, and want to semi them, so the deputies won't be out blasting ammo just to hear the noise. Very few of them have ever run a FA enough to understand how to truly use one. |

I've seen this question a couple times in the past as well.
Semi selector is an easy route, but many times the armorer is looking for the cheapest, fastest way to render them semi only. With the panic buy of all things AR lately, semi selectors may be harder to obtain, although admittedly I haven't looked. Just remove the sear, then grind the rear of the disconnector to semi spec. Done. No parts to buy, literally less than 2 minutes with a grinder or dremel, and although it may be able to select AUTO on the switch, it won't ever shoot fast. I am however not a lawyer, SOT, nor department armorer, so there may be other things at play that I don't know about that would render this method not so kosher in department eyes. But it will absolutely render the gun semi only. |

If they are DRMO guns, you are not supposed to alter any parts, and need to retain the original parts so that it can be returned to original configuration in case they ask for them back. |

Yup, and the universal answer from the brass tends to be to make it totally unable to ever go FA, and since they got the weapons for almost nothing, the want all the work done for free as well. Though it doesn't help when you have ranges which are often run by guys who aren't gun people or make up info on the spot based on their own lack of knowledge. If the OP is a fellow cop, he already knows how political even the smallest things can be. |

Yup, the weapons don't belong to you as an organization, they still belong to the GOV. At least that is the theory. |
