Is there a difference in buffer tube length, spring lenght and or buffer between carbine, mid and rifle length ar's?

Buffers, buffer tubes, and spring lengths are totally unrelated to the gas length.  Any length gas can work with any stock length.
For telescoping stocks you GENERALLY use CAR length receiver extension, buffers and springs. For the A2 or most fixed stocks you GENERALLY use the rifle length receiver extension, buffer and spring. There is no midlength buffer tube, buffer, and spring although VLTOR came out with their bastard sized A5 telescoping stock with special length buffer tube, buffer, and spring but they are the only ones to have that so far as I know.

You have to check with your stock maker to be for certain which length tube, buffer and spring you need because there are telescoping stocks that use rifle length buffers and springs (ACE M4 SOCOM LONG is one) and there are fixed stocks that use CAR length buffers and springs, RR Entry stocks for one. So for every rule there is always an exception so you have to know what you are getting to be absolutely sure.

Good info and thank you.  The reason I asked is I bought a box of parts a couple weeks ago.  In the box there were several buffers, tubes, springs and stocks.  All together I have 3 different tube lengths, 4 different spring lengths.  Now non of the parts were together, just thrown in the box.  Two of the tubes were I guess post ban or cali legal because they looked like six positions adjustable but were in fact fixed postion.

Either way I paid $20 for the box and I have gotten way more than my money back.  Just tryin to figure out the rest of it.

Thanks again.

Got a picture of it?   Where did you get it? Can you weigh it?

sorry no picture now.

it looks just like an H1 from the outside. Same color as a 9mm buffer. the weight inside is 1 long steel "slug" instead of 3 small ones.

I got it from the LGS. it was a buffer parts kit and I didn't thing to ask him where he got it. I do know that he is a dealer for YHM and Stag.

Also, the spring that came with it was darker than normal, almost like a molly coated kinda color....I know --- what the hell does that have to do with anything but I figured that someone on this site would rattle off an answer in a few seconds like I was some kind of dumbass!

Does it have a pin in the back holding the rubber part on?

it has a pin in the front just like any other standard buffer.

it does not have one in the rear like a 9mm buffer.
