| Ive tried to search this topic but was not able to go too far back into the archives. I have a Colt Govt carbine with the mag fence, both large hole upper and lower. It does not have the pivot pin detent hole drilled into the mag fence. I was wondering if anyone has had their lowers sleved or a bushing instaled permanently and the hole driled for the spring and detent? Anyone got any pics of the work and who and how was it done? |

Are you sure?, I've never seen a Colt with the mag fence and the upper and lower have large hole. Anyway, this is what ADCO can do for you. Colt Pivot Pin Install Convert to detent style pivot pin.

I've owned a few; still have two of them. They were transitional receivers made in the early '90s. OP, I'm not sure such a conversion would work. If you look at the forward edge of the fence, you'll see that it does not extend as far forward as the fence on a small-pivot lower. I tend to think a normal detent would not be able to span the gap. Maybe a custom-made longer detent would work? |

You can buy a front take down pin with a springloaded ball bearing on the end. Cheaper than having your lower modified and works... |

Sorry for the late response, been busy as heck. Yup the mag fence is shorter on the colt than the standard a2 lower, don't have the exact measurements. Good call on that, would have never expected it. I will call m60 joe and see if he can do anything about it. No problem. As I mentioned, I've had several of these lowers. Long ago, I considered doing what you're contemplating, but decided it wasn't worth the cost or effort. I just use the non-captive ball-detent pins, or the Colt-made large-hole-to-small conversion pins (which work very well with these receivers, since the fence prevents them from rotating). |
