Below are a couple of pics from a BCG that I bought about 4-5 months ago.  I have never fired this gun and was replacing the BCG with a new NiB model.  When I took this one out, I noticed this notch on the gas key.  I had never noticed it before and doesn't look right at all.  Thoughts on if this is unsafe and I should get it replaced immediately, or if it would be OK to keep and possibly replace at a later date.

Before anyone scolds me ... yes I know that I should have inspected it when I bought, and yes it is my fault.  I could contact Spike's the manufacturer and may do that once I get a few comments, but I may just try to get a gas key and replace it.

Thanks.

This was in the rifle?

Let's see a shot of that chamber.

Looks like someone ground the top of that down and applied cold blue. I'd can the key and get another one. You will have to have it properly staked, not that easy without the right tool. Or get a whole new assembly and use this as a backup.

Chamber shot as requested.  I honestly see nothing out of the ordinary here.  The BCG looks brand new.  I'm sure spike's test fires their uppers, but there is no carbon, brass, etc. on the bolt and the chamber is clean.

The gas key doesn't go inside the chamber.

Send a note to Spike's with a copy of the pics.  They'll probably send you a new gas key.

That key was damaged during production or made from an undersized block of material.

It will probably work just fine, but I'm willing to bet spikes would take care of you if you asked.
