Which is preferred to install in a 7 inch carbine length rail fore end, a Magpul AFG or a Magpul RVG? Thanks

Personally, the afg works better on a longer rail.  I would use the rvg out of the two.

I thought there were some hard and fast rules for these accessories to be placed on a specific length of a rail handguard. So, it's a matter of personal preference?

Fortunately, both products are cheap enough to where you can try them out then sell whatever you don't like.

+1 to USP45TIM   That's exactly what I did.

So what did you end up selling?

The RVG and now I'm going back to the AFG.

Despite what everyone else is using, you're going to have to decide what fits your shooting style best. I more or less used the vertical grip as a hand stop but it used up too much real estate on my rail for what it was.

The AFG, on the other hand, allows me to still grip the rail and control the weapon better.

You have to also think about activating whichever light you decide to mount to your rails. There are a lot of factors to consider.
