I'm starting my first complete AR-15 build and been shopping for parts. I would appreciate it if those of you in the Forum with build experience would take a look at my parts list and see if the parts are compatible. I realize that this will be an expensive AR, but I'm building it for reliability and the ability to take abuse. If you see something that's makes you scratch your head and say, "What was this guy thinking", would you please let me know. I don't get my feeling hurt easily. Plus this thread might start some interesting discussions.

| The BCG from Fail Zero is coated by UCT Coating which impregnates the metal. This allows the BCG to be used without any oils for up to 10,000 rounds. Anyone that knows the death of most service weapons is the dirt and carbon build up on the gas rings, the extractor and the rest of the Bolt. These isues alone would offset the cost of the part when it comes to a servicability issue. Failzero.com has a great video and reviews from current and past military personnel that can explain it better than I. |

But it's your gun. |
| I believe your last comment was a jab at my ability to effectively clean and lubricate a weapon. So be it. But when a weapon is subjected to the elements, ie. dust, sand, dirt, combined with heavy use. The odds are that it will fail, usually at the worst time possible. So you stick with the time consuming cleaning and lubricating of the most vital component of your survival equipment, I'll upgrade for a more dependable and reliable system.. But thanks for your opinion.... and Merry Christmas. |

What is your reasoning for the 43 dollar firing pin and the 60 dollar flash suppressor? ...and the 237.95 BCG when a $159 one will do the same thing ...and the diamondhead sights are kinda pricey Would you trust your life to something that "will do". |

Bravo Co BCG's are $159, and I would trust my life using one. |

YMMV Personally I'd pick up a BCM or similar and spend the saved cash on a Rainier Arms ambi charging handle. |
Welcome, and sorry you had to spend so much on things that are in stock. Sucks that the election boosts sales and pretty much drives the prices threw the roof. Keep us updated on how that firing pin does and how effective the bcg is without lube. Everything looks ok to me on your list just at a glance, just a little pricey for me, but it looks like you know that already. Have fun building it ,then shoot the F$&/K out of it.

While your point relating to survival equipment is valid, 90% of AR's will be used to shoot at things that will not shoot back. If a BCG does break the rifle usually gets thrown into the back of the pickup and a new part gets ordered when one gets home. |
| Personally I'd get a standard BCM BCG if you can ever find one in stock over the FailZero piece. I'd skip the needlessly pricey "designer" flash hider and titanium firing pin. I'd get standard troy sights over the silly diamond head sights, and use the savings for a better optic (XPS or H1) and a longer rail. I'd also go with a Geiselle SSA over the Timney. |

9" rails are too short for lo-pro gb and buis 11-13" rails are preferable depending on your size/height even on a 14.5" bbl This, either get a barrel with a FSB pre-installed or get a longer rail. There is no sense getting rid of the fixed FSB if you aren't going to put a longer rail over it. Plus you'll save a good bit of money not having to buy a front BUIS. |
| I'm interested in seeing how this 240.00 BCG does. I personally have yet to find a DI BCG that doesn't require cleaning or lube. I personally like field stripping my rifles for cleaning, maintenance and most importantly inspection. I have put thousands of rounds through a couple of my BCM bolt carriers both suppressed and non. I have yet to break one. Id spend the money somewhere else like a CHF barrel. Just my .02. |

Great suggestions.. Thank you, this is the dialog that I was hoping for. |
