Hello everyone,

I'm a new member to this forum although I'm a long time gun enthusiast and collector.  I have collected vintage Winchester and Remington bolt action rifles for many years.  I took a step into this world of AR style rifles and purchased an older (2002) Bushmaster almost on a whim.  It happened to be the day after the election but that really didn't have anything to do with my decision, I've been considering buying an AR style rifle for some time.  I'm something of an old school, no nonsense kind of shooter so I purposely chose a very simple model, I think it is what you guys call a post ban rifle, plain, non adjustable stock, no bayonet lug, no flash suppressor, just a simple rifle.  It does have a removable handle with a short section of picatinny rail underneath, but that's about it.  It has a 16" barrel with w 1:9 twist.  Pretty boring to you guys that are into a lot of tactical add-ons I'm sure, but I'm actually kind of excited about getting out to shoot it.
I just wanted to introduce myself and let you guys know that another green, rank newbie has entered this forum.  I suspect I'll be spending some time here for sure, I'm a regular on Rimfirecentral.com and other forums.
Any advice you guys may have for me would be much appreciated.

Your choice of first EBR fits right in the KISS/ minimalist rifle formula that is fairly popular. Enjoy the rifle and the experience of it all.

Take a look around the sub forums here. There's something for everyone.  Lots of rim fire, classic, antique and finer firearms devotees here.

A spare bolt is a necessity IMO, a complete spare BCG is even better. I'd recommend you put some cash into ammo and magazines... and a good white weaponlight if you ever think you could use your AR for defense. Just my two cents.
