I am wanting to cut down .22 upper to 14.5" and pin and weld the muzzle device on. The problem is I wont be able to afford the handguard I really want a KAC URX III for a while. Will I be able to mount the URX or any other free float style handguard with the muzzle device already pinned and welded on? |
| For most barrel/muzzle device combinations, no. There is one muzzle device that is .750 diameter that will allow a gas block and barrel nut to go over it while it is on the barrel. It is an A2 type bird cage flash hider. I was thinking it was made by Adam Arms but I don't see it on their site. It has been mentioned a couple of times on this forum so you can probably find it. You might find a bull barrel that was threaded 1/2 x 28 that allowed a muzzle device smaller in diameter than the bull barrel to be fitted and then you could slide the gas block and barrel nut over it. Seems like I have seen a free float tube that attaches with screws to an installed barrel nut but I can't recall where. You might just have to settle for a less expensive hand guard or wait to assemble your rifle. Both choices are lousy. Everybody wants to hear a new gun go bang right now but we hate to settle for less than our ideal. |
| 98% of shooters will never notice any difference in accuracy from a FF hand guard. In all honesty I wish I would have tried the MOE hand guards before buying expensive quad rails for all my AR's. You can pieces of rail to add accessories wherever you want them. Does it make sense to add a $300 quad rail just to mount a light and VFG? But hey, if you are sold on a quad rail there are plenty of good ones that are in two pieces that can be installed over the muzzle device of your choice. |
