I searched all the pic threads and didn't see a thread for home defense AR's. Was there ever one? Link?

I'm setting up another AR for HD and just wanted to see what everyone was running.

I think there are some discussion threads on this topic but thats about it.  This is what I use for HD... definitely not my "SHTF" rifle but it works great for HD.  I probably need to buy a suppressor bc if it ever needs to be "called into service" I don't want it to blow out my eardrums bc it is loud... then again I don't know how receptive the Police are to defending yourself with a suppressed SBR .  I chose 6.8SPC for my HD rifle simply bc I like the ballistics of the round esp out of a shorter barrel.  Like I said, ammo availability and prices limit this rifle to an extent but I do train with it as much as possible so unless the US military adopts 6.8 (which I don't see happening) my SHTF rifle will remain a 556.

6.8SPC LWRCi PSD (8.5")

14.5 5.56 with no optic yet but a light and sling are a must.

Old pic because I'm mid transformation to a Mk18 clone but still fun to look at.

My "under-the-bed" AR is the bottom one in this picture.

It now has an EOTech XPS2-0 and a Surefire M300a Scout light now, but otherwise that's how I run it. DDLES dedicated 9mm lower, Noveske 5.5" barrel, YHM Wraith QD can, etc.

I bet a lot of guys use the same one they use for other work and such.   I use the same one I use for varmint shooting and for skitrekking.

This is my everything rifle.  When I'm rich and famous I build dedicated rifles.

I'm aware my sling is hooked up wrong :)

Good thread so far, but do most of you agree that an HD AR 15 has to have a light mounted?

14.5" barrel, TLR-1 w/ pressure switch right where my thumb sits on the rail, and Aimpoint T-1 that always stays on. Perfect setup for HD IMO; all I gotta do is flip the safety off and it's ready to rock.

For me my main HD AR is my plain Jane Colt 6920 with A2 grip, M4 buttstock, and only added the minimum that I need which is the light and RDS.

I have other AR with a bunch of gear but they're a lot heavier and have some accessories that I don't need for basic HD.

My KAC M4 RAS rails is not really needed but I have to securely mount my light and VFG to it, here's what I added to my basic M4 style carbine.

Surefire M951C (tailcap switch, no wires for me)
Aimpoint M2
LaRue LT129 cantilever QD mount
KAC M4 RAS rails (with KAC and Magpul XTM rail panels)
KAC rail QD sling mount
KAC VFG
LMT rear fixed BUIS
Vickers VCAS foliage green 2 point sling
BCM extractor upgrade kit
PMAG

I also have a backup HD carbine which is my other second Colt 6920 with Surefire G2 light, EOTech and VCAS sling.

Both my HD weapons passed my 600+ rounds of firing without FTF both are good to go.
