It looks like there is a good chance I will be gone for 2-3 years and need to store my firearms. For those of you that have been deployed or in similar situations what did you do? What worked and did not work?

I'm not sure what the conditions are like where you live (humidity/temperature/etc.), but if it were me, I would clean and wipe the entire weapon down with BreakFree CLP, and then put it in one of the zip-lock type bags like this, along with a bag of silica gel dessicant.

Seal them up in foodsaver bags with desiccant packs ?

Anyone ever tried that?

I say super clean down session and liberally lube it up and put it away.

Also I've never tried, but a fellow range shooter swear by 5gallon motor oil with all parts dipped until you need. Silly?  Who knows but it's been said.

Store it in a 55gal drum of CLP.

Not deployed yet, but I have been stationed in CA.  Do you have any friends you trust enough?  I left all mine either in my dad's safe or with trusted friends.

Thorough clean and lube.  Then take a thick grease and put a light film over all metal parts, wrap in newspaper, store in proper dry room temp/co environment.

I spray stuff down with Boeshield, after a good cleaning.  That or Rig grease.  Every metal part coated with some preservative.  If that's not enough, I've used Zcorr bags in addition to the previously mentioned procedure on my more favoritist guns.  Firearms are then placed into a gun safe with multiple golden rods.  This has worked for me for all my guns, with them going at least a year, and some multiple years with no issues.
