I just got in on the current group buy.
I ordered the 16" stag carbine kit with a railed gas block and an A2 stock (by request in place of the M4 stock) all for $559 shipped
This will be my first AR15, I've been an AK guy for years and I'm venturing into unknown territory.

I'm planning to set this up with a 1-4X optic such as the millett DMS or the Nikon M223. In addition I will be mounting an offset light such as the streamlight polytac (which I have on 2 other long guns already) and I an looking at offset backup sights that can be used with the rifle slightly canted.

I'm not real sure what optic to get yet and I still need to pick up a lower.

Congrats on the purchase, now get that lower! Eotechs and Aimpoints seem to be among the most popular optics and will serve you well, unless you want magnification of course.

I'm prefer a black retical, but there are very few red dots on the market with a black retical.
This is why I have an extreme fondness for 1X scopes, because they act similar to a red dot. As an added plus I can get a variable in case I have to shoot a little further out.

I think there's a reason for that

Are you going with a stag lower?

I would go with a stag lower if you are looking. Good stuff.

I'm going to ask my local gun store what I can get for a lower, I'd prefer to keep it all stag instead of a mixed parts rifle.
I figure the rifle will match better cosmetically that way anyway.

the only thing I might change is the grip, I love the hogue on my AK so I may go that route.
aside from that I'll add a streamlight on a Vltor or elzetta offset mount on the streamlight rail that bolts through the vent holes (already have one)
I'll also be adding the previously mentioned 1-4X optic and backup sights.

I LOVE the DMS scope, but will a 30mm tube be huge on a 16" carbine upper?
I may have to go with a 1" scope just to keep the size and weight down.

I have alignment and lapping bars for both 30mm and 1" so I can do either.

EDIT: looking into the millet DMS, I'm starting to think I'd be better off with the Nikon with the BDC retical, the QC on the millet sounds iffy...

I'm also starting to wonder if I could just get away with a set of magpull BUIS with the rear sight mounted under the scope and use a QD scope mount

I think that DMS is a fine scope.  I pulled mine off my PSA/BCM 16" carbine because of weight, but it is/was a fine scope.

does anyone make a 1 piece 1" QD scope mount that doesn't suck for $100 or less
it seems UTG is getting better reviews than burris! I thought burris stuff was supposed to be good?

I used a set of UTG LE Grade QD rings and they were great. Rock solid, returned to zero, retained zero, and were less than $30 for two. Pretty hard to beat that. Congrats on the rifle, and nice Dendros. ;)
