Both of my 16" rifles are carbine system but I am building another rifle. I am thinking a 16" mid length.  I am wondering what it does for me though? what advantages does a mid length have over a carbine system?
Thanks

My midlength seems a little less snappy with recoil than my carbine.  Also, the longer rail/forend lets you grip the support hand more forward which I like.

Does it seem like the rifle stays cooler/cleaner?

In theory it should. It would have lower port pressure and gives the powder longer to burn, making it cleaner. How much that 2" matters might be more opinion based though. It also has bolt life going for it in the middy setup, and a longer sight radius using a fixed front sight tower.
I like mine
