speaking theoretically here:

if i have a barrel known to be capable of sub moa with quality ammo, if i use m193 or the likes, which has say a standard of 2-3 moa, i will be getting 2-3 moa groups.

if i use the same sub moa ammo with a chrome lined mil-spec barrel, capable of say 2-3 moa accuracy, i will be getting roughly 2-3 moa groups.

so if i were to combine the m193 (or other ammo) with the CL barrel, would the groups by definition open up to 4-6 moa, or would they stay at 2-3 moa?

in short, accuracy is only as good as the weakest link (ammo or barrel), but when 2 inaccurate variables are combined, do the innacuracies combine, or just stay with whichever is most innacurate?

All of the first, plus half the second.

I would think the innacuracy would stack up. A great barrel won't make 2-3 MOA ammo shoot sub-MOA, and great ammo won't shoot great groups out of a crappy barrel. Combining a crappy barrel with 2-3 MOA ammo would result in groups larger than 2-3 MOA, IMO.

Of course, "crappy" is all relative - even a chrome-lined barrel from a decent maker should give pretty decent accuracy.

Inaccuracy is from inconsistency.

Barrels only change consistency with temperature (Cold bore vs. hot smoking bore) or with pressure (free-float vs. non-free float vs. barrel attached bipod... etc.)

Even a non-match barrel has the capability of excellent accuracy if you only do cold-bore shots with consistent ammo.

Match/Heavy/Super barrels only really show their superior accuracy when you are starting cold bore, and continuing to shoot into a warm and then a hot barrel. The best barrels minimize inconsistency in the bore/alignment as a result of temperature change.

That being said, if you're using Match ammo and as your barrel heats up, you are getting 2-3 MOA, adding 2-3MOA ammunition in lieu of the .5MOA Match ammo, will take your 2-3MOA and make it a possible 4-6 MOA.

Thanks, thats what I was looking for to reinforce my belief
