What are the chances of Colt releasing a mid-length rifle or is it like a unicorn.  Anyone know if they have ever considered or prototyped anything like this?

This is one of the reasons I do not own a Colt I really like the mid length rifles.  I liked my M4 I had in Afghan and Iraq I have considered just building one identical to it minus the cool switch.

Colt did build one and only one tool room prototype mid length in the mid sixties. Since they haven't built another since then I think it unlikely they will again.

No reason not to get a Colt and then swap in the barrel of your choice.

If you wanted to make a personal commemorative NoDak Spuds has lowers with the legal minimum markings and a clean roll mark area so you can have it engraved to suit your fancy.

Is the carbine length system really a deal breaker if you want a Colt? Was it a problem on the one that you (and probably several hundred thousand other people) served with?

That would be my question.  Whatever the benefits of a midlength, real or imagined, the carbine seems to work really well..

Not deal breaker at all.  I like front A post sight and since I have jolly green giant length arms I like the extra hand guard length.  It is not a carbine is better or mid length is better deal it is shooter comfort.

If I get a 6920 I would probably do the DD rails that extend past the FSB but I just like it further out for sight radius and hand guard length.  If Colt released a mid I would have it tomorrow for sure.

I like the look and the sight radius of a mid length better. I find there is  less recoil too, not that 5.56 has all that much to begin with but you can feel it.

Justified answer

I installed a DD RIS II with a low profile gas block on my Colt, I love it! The only thing I don't like about the Colt factory installed DD RIS II is that it is black instead of FDE

That's a sweet rifle though. And the RIS II is rifle length, even better than a midlength.

The recoil difference has never been that different for me between the setups.  I just like the length which is why years ago when I bought my first AR I knew very little about the rifle I just liked the longer length and I got a middy.  I just wish Colt made one and we all know it would sell.

I like the A front post sight though.

The factory installed RIS II has the front sight post.

Personally I have no problem with a low pro gas block and flip sights, but if I was dead set on having a FSB I also would not want a carbine gas system.

Im not a fan of FSB cutout rails, but that would be the only solution I guess.
A fixed rail mounted front sight might be a compromise you could live with too.
If the rail was bombproof enough, I would feel comfortable with a quality fixed front sight on it.

Colt is starting to give a crap about the civilian market again, so I could see them possibly doing a middy in the future.

Why do you really like the midlength rifles?

How often did you shoot the one you had in Iraq and Afghaninstan?

Hand guard length is biggest reason due to my arm length carbines have never been as comfortable unless they have extended rails.

Hard question to answer not like everyday I was in a fire fight but it got used to say the least.

I would be ok with that and it does not have that Colt stock I hate so much.  Much rather have a CTR.
