Should there be a noticeable difference?

The upper has that purple-black look to it while the lower is more flat black.

Normal? Why would they be different? Not made/finished together?

Normal? Yes...       Why would they be different? See next answer...  Not made/finished together? Exactly.

Not made/finished together

Pretty much you got it.

Anodizing between different manufacturers is hit or miss at best. Everyones "black" finish is unique.

Black is an easy color,  try FDE.

I've seen that... and I think it's even more noticeable. Where an upper looks more like anodized gold and the lower looks like painted tan.

Funny how a CMMG upper matched a Spikes lower perfect but my Spikes upper lower have variation

So I shouldn't be too upset by it then? While it would be nice to get a complete rifle from a company with a consistent finish, it's not unusual not to?

Go buy a couple cans of Krylon camo and you wont worry about your finish anymore

That scares me. I just imagine sticky and tacky feel... even if it couldn't be farther from the truth...

CMMG teflon coats their uppers/lowers.
Spikes teflon coated SOME lowers.
And as far as I know, no uppers were teflon coated.
That would explain why it matches the CMMG but not the Spikes upper.

^^This is how I make mine match. No sticky/tackyness to it as long as you have everything fairly degreased and dry before you spray

The factory mismatch is pretty normal.

Purple tint is the one color I can't stomach. I feel they erred when they anodized. Is it a Bushmaster that's purple? They had trouble with that for a few years.

Anodizing shades can vary even with parts that finished in the same batch, so you can imagine how they might vary from a different batch.

IIRC purple hue comes from pushing the "bath water" to far.

How does the rifle shoot?

I bet if the color matched perfectly you'd get +10 accuracy.

LOL. Without a doubt. The difference in finish throws off the balance of the rounds as they exit the barrel. Science man... it all comes out on the target.
