Fluting's cheaper...and simpler..Advantages??? Disadvantages??? Edit....Is the weight loss enough to really notice?[/quote] Yes, the weight loss is very noticable. Thru the years, I have had several fluted (as rifles were built), it is worth it to me. I saw a comparison chart once that showed the weight change due to different fluting options, it does vary. My preference is a heavy barrel over lite weight, fluting allows this and if done correctly, looks great (and sheds heat faster). Whether or not it is worth it can only be answered by you. Edit for spelling correction, damn keyboard ![]() |
| I had a 20" Bushmaster Match upper with fluted HBAR. I wish I had that one back. Yes, fluting done right on a HBAR is very advantageous for a number of reasons. However, it has been said that fluting should be completed on a new barrel before completion to avoid stresses imposed by doing it later. Maybe that's BS. I would listen to what ADCO says about that. Personally I would buy a new barrel in the configuration I wanted and have it professionally installed. |

You won't buy a new barrel because it's cheaper to flute your barrel, but you can't be bothered to disassemble the upper yourself and save $50? Not that I can't be bothered, I just don't have the time to do it. I can send it to ADCO and it's finished..Hell it's only $50 bucks... |
| The fluted pics look awesome and I think fluted barrels are great. But ff you are going to flute it, it is advisable to pay for stress relieving afterwards and either way fluting a barrel after it is already finished means you get a barrel with reduced accuracy and life. I have seen home-fluted barrels start to throw a lot of fliers as they heat up and the zero start to move around significantly if you don't let the barrel rest between mags. I am sure many have gotten away with it, but I for one would not chance it. For the money I would agree with the other guys that buying is a better option. |

If you would read the post I AM NOT DOING the fluting...ADCO will. as far as hearsay accuracy issues and flyers...I'll take my chances.. |
