I am from California and all ar-15 are gonna have to be 16"+ in length. I am planing to get a 14.5 barrel pin a compensatory to make 16. One of my questions is for example PSA sells uppers that are at 14.7 thats .2 off from what i want. Can a gunsmith grind off a little off the barrel to make  14.5? Also if any one have pics of there guns with a mid length rail system. I would like to see how its gonna look.

Also what rails are popular for mid-length that people buy.  Pic would be nice and and company if you could so i can research in what is popular.

The 14.7" barrel will allow you to utilize the stock A2 flash suppressor to bring it to 16", otherwise an after market muzzle device will be needed.

Does an overall difference of less than 1/4 inch between the two really make a difference?

The 14.7" barrel lets you use the standard A2 flash hider length muzzle devise to get to get back to 16" (shown left). The 14.5" barrel needs a longer muzzle devise like most aftermarket lengths and like the A2 Long (shown right).

You cannot grind barrels down. They have to be cut, turned, threaded and crowned. Not all gunsmiths can do this. Even fewer can do it correctly. If you want to cut a barrel, send it to Adco to do it right.
