| I have read through some relative threads but still can't decide so can I get some advice? I am going to order a complete lower and put a CMMG .22 upper on it, and build a 5.56mm upper as time (and cash) permits, but for now I would like the .22 for preadators around the homestead. I am currently looking at the blem BCM complete lower, the Rainier Arms complete lower, and the LMT Defender 2000 complete lower.I was leaning towards the BCM but did not want to wait up to 5 weeks to receive it, I like the LMT as well but I have heard they do not fit well with some other brands (CMMG?) and the Rainier Arms is highly recommended by a buddy. Well, what do the experts say? Thanks in advance for your advice, input, and experience. |
| most lowers are well... lowers. 99% of the time your paying for the roll mark or other markings. so pretty much any lower is a lower. id recomend trying a local gunshop alot of places will have stag lowers or other brands at a decent price. i havent heard about cmmg uppers not fitting but then again i dont read alot about cmmg luppers. good luck! |

This is a good resource to learn about lower receivers

Sounds like you are doing the same thing we did for my kid. Assembled a Aero Precision lower and bought him a CMMG dedicated upper for it. Our plan was always to later assemble a 5.56 upper for him and we recently accomplished that. The CMMG .22 upper gets most of the shooting time for two reasons. Price of Ammo and they are just a plain blast to shoot and are 100% dependable. Ours is anyway. CMMG also has great CS. You will really like the CMMG dedicated upper, most fun shooting I have had in many years. I believe most lowers are good. We did use a cheaper DPMS LPK in the Aero lower but it has had many thousands of round of .22 through it and it has not caused a problem yet.. Its so nice to be able to go out and shoot 550 rounds in a afternoon and not go broke doing so.. If you like drum mags,we do, get a Blackdog 50 round drum for the dedicated,or two like us. They function great and are easy to load.
If you can swing it get the stainless CMMG bolt assembly. We first purchased the parked one and since have traded it in on a stainless and it was a very good move, we just should have done bought the stainless the first time around. It ended up costing more to upgrade later. The stainless just runs so smooth and stays clean and is very easy to clean up.. One other good thing about the stainless is we just use rem dri lube for lube. It is a completely dri lube and the bolt stays virtually clean without having to use any wet lube and the mess and problems it can create. The remDriLube has protected my rimfires for many many years and wear is just non existent with the stuff..If you try to wetlube a rimfire you are just asking for problems you can avoid, especially if you over wet lube it. The dri lube does work well on non stainless bolts too but it excels on stainless. |
