I just wanted to drop in and introduce myself. Also wanted to scold everyone here for having so much great knowledge and information which prompted me to go ahead and dive into finally buying my first AR....lol. I had been lurking a bit and really did pick up a lot of good info here. In the end, I decided to go with a M&P 15 OR for my first AR. Unfortunately, I now realize this will definitely not be my last AR! Picked up a few pieces of furniture for it and have already zeroed the BUIS. Received my Primary Arms red dot w/ QR mount yesterday and will be getting to the range this Saturday to zero. So far, I am loving the rifle and after the first 300 rounds or so, no issues and shoots straight as a needle.
I'm looking forward to hanging out here and learning all I can about these great rifles. Here are a couple pics since I know they are mandatory...lol. And thanks to everyone that shares their knowledge on this site! http://i45.tinypic.com/2h6ztdz.jpg http://i49.tinypic.com/2wg7o9h.jpg http://i49.tinypic.com/fpbh2r.jpg |
Congrats on the new addition to the family. Welcome to the site. The long-living BRD appears to have a firm grip on you, but don't worry, while it is with you for life, it isn't usually terminal.
As you have noted, this site is a vast wealth of knowledge, and has been instrumental in my own understanding and development as an AR owner and shooter. |

Looks great man, hows the primary arms red dot? I am about to pull the trigger on an Aimpoint H-1 but keep fighting myself over spending $600 for it or approx $180 for that Primary Arms. I will find out this weekend when I zero it. Just sighting in with it on the rifle it does look good. Easy to acquire a good sight picture and seems easy to run both eyes open as well, which is what I want to be able to do. I read a bunch of good reviews about it here on the site which is why I figured it would not hurt to give it a try. The build quality and fit & finish seems to be really solid. I was in the same boat as you about the optics, especially since it is my first AR. As you can tell by my forum name, I didn't get to play with all the cool stuff when I was in the service....lol Just a plain vanilla A2 with iron sights.

Looks good, but take that MBUS OFF of the railed front gas block, it'll melt on there or warp the sight. Those sights aren't meant to be put on there. Ahh good info thanks. So should no front sight mount there or just not the MBUS because of the plastics used? |

Yeah, totally didn't even think about it being the gas block when I was looking at the rifles...lol. Thanks much for the info! I did ensure that the M&P OR gas block rail is level with the receiver rail, so it looks like I can use a YHM Gas Block Mounted front flip and have the height right. Quoted:
Let us know how that red dot works out for you. I have a PA comp m3 RDS and love it. You got a nice rifle there congrats and welcome. Will do. I will post up some pics of the target with the zeroing and I will do a couple of 5 shot groups. The range I am going to though is only 50 yards unfortunately. |

Well, went back to the range today and put about 120 rounds through the M&P. Zeroed the Primary Arms Aimpont in about 30 rounds and so far I like it. For the price plus coming with the QR mount, it is worth the money. the real test now will be how well it holds up to the Aimpoint brand models. Shot groups were consistant and tight, even on the Wolf MC ammo I was using for the range. I was able to rapid fire an entire 30 round mag, at about 2 shots / sec, from standing @ 50 yards, with both eyes open, and my group for that mag was 3.5-4 inches, which I felt pretty good about.
While I was at the shop (the range is indoor, hence why it is only 50 yards) a nice looking rifle caught my eye on the shelf. Here is the addition I walked out with today., sorry for the bad cell phone pics. Ruger SR-556 Standard http://i48.tinypic.com/23krclu.jpg http://i50.tinypic.com/35d5ahf.jpg I added a Magpul ACS stock (the cheek weld on this stock feels REALLY nice and comfortable) , rail mounted sling mount, rear receiver sling mount, and the MVG. This rifle comes with the rail system and covers and the Troy flip up battle sites. I pulled the Troy sights off the Ruger and put on the MBUS since I could mount them without the heat issue. I put the Troy sights on the M&P so will be at the range again next week to re-zero some BUIS. Ordered a set of the FDE colored rail covers from Troy as well to kinda match up with the theme...lol. (these things really are Barbies for men =P) I will admit the Ruger feels really smooth but is a little bit heavier, I am guessing from the piston system. I think my idea right now is to make the Ruger my long distance shooter, with a bipod and a decent low to mid power scope. Have to say I am completely satisfied so far with both purchases. Time will tell how they hold up I guess! |
| ya once i got the bug my wife hates all you people lol. I am happy to say number one is complete and i started number two I got the upper so now you all know how thew story goes. Nice rifle by the way. enjoy and get others involved I have 2 friends i already corrupted. |
| Took the Ruger out to the range today and put about 150 rounds through it. Very smooth and very, very accurate. The downside is the weight of the rifle. Also, it does not like the steel cased ammo as much. I think the Ruger will be getting a bipod and a small scope for some distance shooting. Overall, very happy with both rifles. |
| Man, you do have it bad! I thought there was usually at least a 3 - 4 weeek timeframe between the first AR and the 2nd! Just wait until you realize your burning through ammo so much that you need a .22 conversion or a M&P 15-22. Then with all the .22 ammo you stock up on, your realize that you need a Browning Buck Mark to help fire it all. Then you get home, get concerned for all your new toys and go out to get a safe. Then, you look in the safe and realize there's a lot more room in there that would look better filled up. So, back to the store and they have a Mosin for $109. So.................. |

Wow, you haven't "caught the bug." The bug has caught you and kicked your ass. You have severe BRD. So how are you set for pistols? ![]() Well, I own a Glock Model 22 in black and a Model 30 in OD green. Actually working on selling the Model 30 right now. Just keeping the Model 22 and maybe getting a 9mm or .380 for CC and also something the GF feels comfortable shooting in case the need arises. This is it really. Probably will get a safe at some point and just finish out the Ruger with a 1-4x scope and a bipod. I am happy with the two rifles and setting one up for CQB and the other for longer distance. |

Start with the PA, love mine. +1. It won't hold up like an Aimpoint, but you can find a YouTube video showing one being thrown around on concrete several times and still working fine. Hard to beat for the money. . . |
