Maybe I am in idiot but no matter how I try to put it on the non ported side it in the upward facing position. I have tried it with no washer, 1 washer and 2 washers. Best I can get is off to the side. Is there a trick to this that I am not grasping? Never thought this part would be the slightest problem.
Barrel is a RRA if that matters. |

You need to use a crush washer or a peel washer in order to time it correctly. |

Ok, that is simple enough. I figured the A2 style washers would work just fine so I thought it was me. Thanks guys. I don't know what an "A2 washer" is. You either have a crush washer, a peel washer or a shim washer kit. If you have a crush washer, they are deigned to collapse (or crush) under pressure to allow perfect timing of the muzzle device. Watch your progress carefully and don't overrun your desired timing. If you try to back up you will lose tension. Installing a Flash Hider Deviations in the video.... You should use barrel blocks (restrain the barrel, not the receiver). You should apply a little grease to the threads, prior. Here's a crush washer installed...

When I said A2 I was thinking the standard washer that came on my A2. I have the washer that you show.
Didn't realize that it had to be tightened that much either. Useful info. The rifle is in a barrel vice at this time so I will try it again with the "stock" parts and some elbow grease. Failing that I will use the washers. |

If it's a used crush washer, make sure it isn't "used up" and still has some "cupping" left. Don't go crazy with torque on your muzzle. The M16/M4 Tech manual states 15-20 ft lbs for the muzzle device. With flat washers you will want to select one (or more) that gets you within 20 degrees (or thereabouts) of your preferred timing location. Edit: I see you got it. Nicely done. |

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the non ported side of the Phantom 5C2 should be facing down, not upward. It is intended to reduce dust kick up when shooting prone. I think that the OP understands that the closed portion of the FH goes down at 6:00 He must have been typing on a phone in the OP which may have gotten jumbled a bit. |
| I can't type for crap on the Droid. Sorry about that. Yes, I was having a problem with the non-ported side facing up. It came down to just a bit more torque than I thought I should be using. Pretty simple but better to ask before I screw up the threads on my rifle. |
