I found this neatly tucked between two studs in a crawl space while cleaning out my fathers house.
I wanted to share and ask a few questions. I vaguely remember seeing this about 30 years ago and I'm sure it hasn't been touched since then.
At first I thought "cool a custom FF tube" but then I realized it's not a FF in fact it seems to be the complete opposite, because the hand guard only attaches at the gas block. It looks like a C M marked SP1 upper with a 17" barrel and magnetic gas tube. The threads on the barrel are 9/16x18, which apparently doesn't match up to any available flash suppressor... but should fit a standard chrome acorn lug nut just fine
What do you think? just drill a hole in the end of the lug nut and you have instant bling for your rifle.
The holes in the rear sight both seem to be about 5/64, why would they both be the same?

This thing is solid and it's what comes to my mind when someone mentions a SHTF rifle, its comfortable, smooth, and sturdy enough to whack someone with it if necessary.

I'm sure this was a custom job, but has anyone seen anything similar?
Do you think there would be a heat problem under the enclosed handguard?

The thread gauges were my grandfathers, it just goes to show you that if you buy quality tools they will not only last a lifetime they can last generations.
