I'm new to the AR world and I had a question that I was hoping could be answered. When shooting my new AR yesterday I noticed that I could really hear the buffer spring as it was operating and was wondering if this was normal. Thanks for the help.
Yes. It's called the 'Sproing'. Listen carefully and you'll notice a difference in the sound when the bolt locks back on an empty mag. You can reduce the noise a little by lightly greasing the recoil spring. The 'sproing' is louder in a rifle buffer tube than it is a carbine.
No kidding! My rifle really barks! I had some decent plugs in yesterday and only put around 100 rounds through it but my right ear is still ringing a little bit today. I thought my Norma 308 mag was loud! I might have to spend a little on better plugs. Thanks for the advice on greasing the spring.
