How can I tell the difference between a commercial buffer tube and milspec buffertube.

Your first question need more info from which companies products are you comparing.
Second question there is a pic on the hive that shows the differences between a mil-spec and commercial buffer tube. In a quick nut shell, a mil-spec tube O.D. is small than a commercial tube.

DD Omega 7.0 if you are looking for a standard length, drop-in install that takes
no special tools....

Buy it once you have it forever.

I like longer rails on my carbines unless you already have a fixed front sight m4 style.

Don't take the slantback on the commercial tube as gospel. I have an old stock setup (pretty sure it is preban, bought it back in '02ish) that is a commercial tube with no slant. Don't just pop your old stock off, see that it is straight an assume it is a mil-spec tube. Make sure you measure it also.

I hear ya on this. I still have my stock handguard because of the width. It feels great. I would need a quad rail that is under 2" wide if I was going to go with one. A lot of the quad rail mfg's will post a width. That should help.
