It looks like it came out of another bolt with like 10,000 or more rounds through it. I have shot some M16s that I am sure have had quite a few thousand rounds through them, and I have never seen an extractor that looks like that. I don't say this very often about gun parts, but I would replace that thing ASAP. Even if it was new and only has about 1500 rounds through it, it certainly appears to have been made from sub-standard material.
It actually looks as if it suffered from some serious corrosion pitting, and someone sandblasted it, then installed it on your bolt. |

The pic shows the part about 10X's it's actual size, it's going to look pitted. Are you have extraction problems? If it works, fix it till it doesn't. The spring pocket, pivot pin hole and case groove all look normal. That would make sense if the bolt didn't appear to be in almost perfect condition. |

| If you look at the inside of where its machined for the extractor pin the metal looks nice and smoothe..could the roughness/pimpled look be from shotpeening and not finshed smoothe afterward or is the hunk of steel shotpeened before the extractor is machined from the steel? |

Ok contacted the MFG. with pics and they are sending me a new extractor. Who was MFG? That is awesome they are replacing it. The MFG. is Daniel Defense. I have nothing bad to say. My MK18 is a great rifle, and their CS is amazing. I sent the email yesterday and today by 10AM i had an email waiting askin for my mailing address so they can get a new one shipped out to me. I will gladly continue to use them |

while you are at it, slip an 1/8" "O" ring over the spring...unless you need it at -20degrees a neoprene ring from your local hardware will work If the rifle operates fine without an oring, there is really no need to add one. They can sometimes cause issues in what was a perfectly functioning rifle. |

If you do not have a extraction problem do not install a O ring. Using the correct spring and insert should work for all but the most extreme set ups. If you have a7" pistol AR by all means use a O ring. |

Looks like the extractor was tumbled with granite. Could be vibratory deburring gone wrong. The only part which requires precise finish is the claw. As long as the claw is sharp, it will work. As far as the two others, there are slightly different designs. If they work, use them. |

I wasnt sure if there was like a specific amount of lead in when it comes to that part of the extractor |
