I am a new owner of a ST 6551.  Is the original pivot pin removable?  Can I replace it?  Thank you.

Are you trying to seperate the lower from the upper? Push the pin from the side of the rifle with the safety selector towards the side of the rifle with the ejectio door, same as the rear takedown pin.
If you have done that already, and you are trying to remove the actual pin from the lower, then you should read around on the build it yourself section of this forum.

I haven't had to take one out, but I suggest you look at a pivot pin, its channel and the detent system.
You would want to use a fine, flat-bladed screwdriver to push back the detent which in turn would release the pin.

Be prepared to capture the spring-loaded detent and spring as you withdraw the pin.

Sorry, my question was not very clear.  I can take out the pivot pin to separate the upper and lower receivers.  What I want to know if the pivot pin I have is the right one.  It has a cotter pin at the end.  Thank you.

ADCO offers a Colt pin replacement service.
I'm not sure if it applies to what you have.
I would post in the ADCO sub-forum and ask the question....the link above is hot.

Colt never sold a rifle with a cotter pin on the pivot pin.  Someone replaced the original, which was probably a double screw.
