So can we take another look at it?

Is it obsolete in the face of the troy claymore and other linear compensators that weigh half as much?

Does it still have a place on 10.5" and shorter barrels?

I still like them. It all comes down to style and how much the extra weight bothers you. I think the Claymore is ugly as sin,  and at 6'4" 280lbs I don't mind the few extra ounces, especially since I'm not carrying any of my rifles into war.

I agree.

I was reminded recently of just how effective the PIG is at directing the sound wave down range away from the shooter when I forgot my ear plugs.  lolvtec, I love that look/color combo, it ROCKS! Regards

I think that's where it's place has always been. If something is effective, it doesn't cease being effect as time goes on. Just because other products have come out, doesn't take away from the KX3 still being really good at what it does for SBR's.

I use a KX3 on my 10.5” SBR and very happy with its performance. It does its designed job of focusing the sound of the round down range. I know that my colleagues and other shooters that are adjacent to the rifle when being discharged appreciate it as well. Yes it’s a little heavy compared to other products, but I can always stand to lose a few pounds myself, which is what I would do before removing the pig from my SBR.

Now the rifle rocks a silencer and a Ubr.. but before the Fde I was repping larue Ude with a magnesium cerakote on the pig:

Is there a better product though? Or does the KX3 still outperform the competition (at the cost of weight and.. cost)?

They are designed to be effective on SBR's that you you maybe working around other people. Like entry teams. If you have ever done entry's with SBR's they are LOUD.

If you can't "CAN" it, "PIG" it!

Until that day,

Have there been any sound tests with KX3s?

Dosen't the Levang comp perform the same function? If it does, it certainly weighs alot less by the looks of it compared to the Pig. I don't have either and I would really like to know how either of these perform seperately and side by side. I get the sending the sound down range, but aside from that do they really have traditional compensating abilities? By that I mean do they move the exhaust gasses to help keep the barrel more stable or is it more for moving sound?

If anyone has both and can add to this, please feel free.

Neither the Levang, nor the Claymore direct as much blast forward as the KX3. The Krink style seem to work as well but are even bigger and heavier.
I thought the Pigs were overated and overpriced until I shot next to someone with one on his AR pistol. An 11.5in I think. From 4 feet away I was feeling less concussion and noise than a 16 or even a 20 with a standard birdcage.  I put one on my pistol, and if WA ever allows short barreled rifles again, one will be on the 6933 I'be ordering the moment the law passes.

I have been through three different muzzle devices on this SBR and ended up coming back to the KX3.  Yes, a little heavy, but virtually no muzzle rise and as others have stated, no punishing concussion.

Ugly as sin? My Claymore is sad. At 6'2" 180 I need this little guy!

I don't like the muzzle flash. It's not as bad as some, but it's pretty nasty at night depending on the ammo used.

You think a KX3 is bad?  Try a Battlecomp on a 10.5" during the day, not to mention having to make an appointment with your dentist the next week to check your fillings!
