[ARCHIVED THREAD] - BCM Upper

I am looking to buy a BCM 14.5 mid length upper and they have them for $399 and $489 the only difference between the two is the more expensive upper has a cold hammer forged barrel. I am wondering if it is worth paying the extra money for the hammer forged barrel over the Mil-Spec 11595E barrel?

depends on your needs. if you do a large amount of shooting and take carbine classes and such i would opt for the CHF....if not the standard one is just fine.

All of my BCM uppers are standard and work fine, I can't see paying $100 more, but that's just my personal preference.

Standard 14.5 & 11.5 bcm, have never seen a standard barrel wear out, until i do i'll stick the the standards and buy more ammo ;)

Since the cost of shooting out a barrel is enough to make barrel life a moot point I choose to go with SS barrels.

But if my choice was between standard and CHF id go standard and use the extra money for a 22lr conversion kit

In reality (considering barrel life vs. cost) CHFing is just another way to make a barrel... no better, no worse... so not worth the extra cost.

Thanks for all the feedback guys, i went with the standard 14.5 inch mid length. I really can't see myself shooting enough to wear out the barrel anyway.
