what could I expect to be the accuracy difference between a bushmaster and a colt AR 15 at 100 to 300 yds ?
Both with 20" barrels.

The colt is a match target Hbar and the bushmaster is a 20"fluted heavy barrel

It's hard to say.  They should both shoot pretty close to the same though.  For all the crap Bushmaster gets, their barrels are actually pretty damn accurate.

This question has no answer.

Every single barrel is going to have its own accuracy potential and NO ONE could tell you without shooting each barrel which would be better.

Get whichever one makes you happy and don't worry about which is "better"

^^^this.

More than likely either will out-shoot your expectations unless you happen to get a bad one, which is very rare these days.  Buy one, shoot it until your confident with it, and start tracking down which ammo your particular gun likes.  Unless someone had 10 examples of each gun there is no answer.  That's the only way to get an answer and then it would only be an average.  It still wouldn't prove anything about the ONE you buy.

Probably more like 100.  Better even 1000.

Tested with strict controls.

Right again durabo.

When I said that I meant it just to prove a point.  I was talking about an actual consumer/shooter owning ten or more of them and having his opinion about one or the other.  That's all.
If someone says they own one and they know it's better I would have a very tough time taking them seriously.  If they said their opinion was that of one or the other was better, then that's different.

We are in agreement again.

For the record I have a close friend who has a Bushmaster varmint rifle that was probably built in the late 90's.  It is an absolute tack-driver.  Does that experience mean anything to someone looking at these guns objectively??  Absolutely not.  It means nothing other than the company is capable of putting out fine barrels and have in the past (at least one).  Does not guarantee what a consumer will get today.

Complete agreement.

Slight topic drift but this is the same thing when people try and compare almost any barrel types... we get the threads all the time...

Spikes Chrome lined vs. BCM Chrome lined?
Spikes Hammer forged vs. BCM hammer forged?
PSA vs. Spikes vs. Bushmaster vs. BCM vs. Colt?
Hammer forged vs. button rifled?

Its silly.

At some point you might have to shoot them to see.

The internet can only get you so far.

yes even with fancy CNC machines! tooling gets changed, different machine operators/ 1/2/3 shift operation? , Operators gage to a spec and if the product falls into spec it's good!

different batch of barrel blank steel from the mill! who deep hole drills the blank's? who rifles the blanks? who straightens the blank's? who heat treats the blank's?and the list goes on and on!

You really do have to love rifle barrels

these are factory workers! some of wich never will own a firearm and actually my not even know they're making a rifle barrel! if it fall's into a specified range in quality it's good to go!

And that's not to say a company let's out bids!  J&B STEEL looses a bid to Euro Steel for barrel quality steel blank 4140!

I  think most here know where I'm goin. And ANYONE in modern manufacturing SHOULD KNOW! sadly this is the way it works!

bottom$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

ever wonder why those top notch barrel blank companies want $300.00 for a 32" rifled tube not machined?

sadly this country DOES'NT manufacture stuff like it used to! So some of you will never know.......... I do! SADLY!
