So this is my very first post on this site! I have two ARs currently. My newest addition to my family is a Colt 6940. My question is I have a Magpul angled forgrip on my bottom rail. So it leaves about 2 inces or so of rail left. I want to put a nice bipod on there as well. But the problem I am running into is not enough rail space. They mostly all required more rail space. Does anyone have any experience with this setup? Thanks! I looked all over online and did not get much info.

Look into a Vltor Modpod....it has two separate legs that mounts on both sides of the forearm instead of the bottom. I think CAA make one as well.

...or possibly a short extension rail?

Sounds like you're trying to put 10 pounds of sh!t in a 5 pound box.

The AFG needs to be in a specific spot....where you find it comfortable.
That's a non-negotiable spot. On a carbine-length rail, all the rail estate is consumed now.

You will probably have to go with a longer rail to provide some mounting space for the bipod.
Centurion makes one that will co-exist with your FSB.

The 6940 does not really have the capability to add an extended rail - it's a monolithic upper receiver, so you're more or less stuck with the 7" carbine length rail unless you get a new upper.

That being said - an AFG and bipod seems like an odd combination to me - the AFG is optimized for dynamic offhand shooting styles - "running and gunning" if you will.

A bipod implies a fixed position, whether a bench or a hide site.

I could see switching back and forth between them, but I have a little bit of difficulty understanding why or how they would be used in tandem.

haha. Well I have never put a bipod on an AR platform. So maybe a quick release would be good too. Run and gun is going to be my main thing. For 3 gun comps. But I would like to be able to throw down a bipod if needed.

unless you have a precision rig a bipod doesn't really make any sense, sure their cool but beyond range fun its just money burning a hole in your pocket. I'm a firm believer in lightweight rigs so im biased.
