So I've been prowling this forum awhile now and gathering some info that I would love some input on. As some of you may know I have a Stag model 3. I love this rifle and hands down I would trust my life to it. But I want to get it slightly more mil-spec. I know that with my level if shooting the barrel steel honestly doesn't matter nor does having M4 feed ramps. I do however feel I need a properly tested BCG as I do use the rifle as a patrol rifle. I think I've decided on a youngs chrome bcg unless the community can talk me into something different. Thanks!

If by Proper testing you mean HPT, MPT then the Young bolt isn't going to cut it ether. If its that important to you, then a Colt, Bravo Co. or LMT( just to name a few) will fill the bill.

I don't recall any stag owner posting about failed BCGs. If you're trying to justify spending some money on your AR, no need to. You're among friends here.

That being said, you can't get much more mil spec than Colt. While the chrome will aid in cleaning, I don't see it helping with reliability. Just keep it well lubed.

Buy a spare bolt.

Shoot your stag bolt until it breaks. Then replace.

First of all I agree with always having a spare bolt assembly (without bolt carrier) handy with you at all times because even the HPT & MPI properly tested bolts could also fail at any time.

Most members here won't recommend the Young Mfg. bolt carrier group (BCG) because their bolts are not individually tested same as your standard Stag Arms bolt, also the Young carrier's gas key fasteners are not staked at all.

The recommended duty BCG here are fully tested bolts, properly staked gas keys, and M16 full auto type carriers like Colt, BCM, Daniel Defense, Spike's, etc.

Stag Arms also have the fully tested BCG which they include in their Plus Package, if you prefer that same brand contact Stag and get info on how you could purchase it.

OP, one option is to get a JP enhanced bolt (as a backup or even go to).  Some people may say it's not the same spec as colt or bcg, they would be right... it's better.

Or you can upgrade to a NiB BCG, and run it essentially dry no worries.

The only thing I'd concern myself with: "Is the gas key fastened properly either by correct torque or staking?"
BCM, PSA, LMT, Colt, and a plethora of others that members will mention would be a viable "mental security factor".

The pursuit of "mil spec" hurts my brain.

If your rifle works now, use that money on a training course. You'll be 50x more dangerous with your stag post course than you will with a low drag rifle.

I don't mean to be derogatory, but if your Stag works, let it work mayng.
