Hi,
I have an AR-15 SP1 with what looks like a Colt 6001 two-position stock on it. What is the stock coated with? It is shiny, black and thick - it looks like it was applied with a trowel. Is it worth stripping to refinish it? Thanks. |
| The stock itself is worth a lot to the retro-guys. Not sure how much but you would be surprised. If you don't like it I would sell it and get a new one. I am sure you could sell it for more than a new stock would cost. Kind of like an old gun, once you refinish it the price goes down. |

It's a vinyl-acetate coating.
The stock body alone is worth upwards of $200 on the market, depending on condition. I would *NOT* refinish or strip it. We Retroheads would probably cry for months. I'm sure there are plenty of folks that if they haven't IMed you already would be willing to more than compensate you to trade. Please, please, please, for the love of god, do not strip or refinish that stock. ~Augee |

Vinyl Acetate? Thanks!
O.K., I get the message - I won't touch it! As soon as the rest of the gun gets back from the refinisher I'll post some photos. BTW, I bought the SP1 used, but not in original condition. The previous owner had an H-bar installed. At least I think the H-bar was added later - I've never seen one on a "retro". Am I wrong? Thanks again for your help, guys! |
