Looking for suggestions on a bipod for my plain jane Colt 6920.

What height would you suggest for bench shooting?

Is a swivel bipod preferred?

I see some come with smooth legs and notched legs.

I would rather use one hand to extend legs.  Suggestions?

I don't have front rails, but then I don't think I need them as there appears to be a sling button type connection point already there.

your opinions are solicited.

Check out the Harris bipods. They are a little more expensive then the others but a lot of people seem to use them.
Soon as tax money comes back i'll be getting a harris for one of my builds.

I always wanted a BoBro Gen 3 but you will probably have better luck finding a unicon.  I got a GG&G bipod off of EE, instead.  It is actually the BoBro Gen 2 model, but I guess GG&G brought the rights to it off of BoBro.  I love that bipod.  It is very nice. GG&G are coming out with a new bipod.  I am thinking about buying one of those for my new build.

Check out the Vltor bi-pod.  That's what I went with.

Harris notched leg bipod. 6-9 (HBLM-S 6-9) works the best for my bench-rest and prone shooting needs.

Thanks....

GG&G are bit to pricey for my needs.  Be better off with the unicorn.

VLTOR requires side rails.  I'm not putting any on...just yet.

Harris looks pretty good.  Price point is good too.

It appears the Harris attaches to the sling swivel stud.  My 6920 doesn't appear to have a "regular" s/s/s, but some sort of variant.  I presume it functions the same?  Any comments on that?

I think you'll have a tough time attaching any kind of bipod without rails.  Most of them are designed for it.  The non-rail ones are designed for the hunting rifles with that sling swivel, as you noted, which I don't think will work on any ARs that I've seen.  There might be a workaround to get a bipod on a non-railed rifle, but I think you'll be more satisfied with a railed setup with the bipod.  Just my thoughts.

The Harris #5 stud is an adapter to use with standard AR handguards.

However, with the double heat-shield handguards that come with the 6920, you will need to remove one heat-shield.

It also isn't the securest thing in the world without modifying or cranking it down, however, whether or not it will work is largely dependant on your use.  For casual plinking the #5 adapter would work fine.  For serious shooting with a bipod, you'd be recommended to at least use a FF tube which usually comes with, or can be tapped with a standard sling swivel stud.

I have a couple of Harris BR-S bi-pods, work well from the bench.  I have a Atlas, much nicer much more money.

The Harris swivel model with a pod-loc is possible the best bang for the buck.

Xlnt...tx for the inputs.

The Harris LMS seems to meet my current needs.

Now to decide to try the #5 adapter on the original handguard or change them out.

Can you all recommend a quality handguard with rails?

Troy Alpha Series.  TRX Extreme, VTAC Extreme - The Charlie and Delta Series look good too.

Well....you've certainly narrowed down the options.

I really like my Harris 6-9 with notched legs.  I have mine mounted to a quad rail with a GG&G swivel sling adapter.

You could always do a drop in rail. YHM has a pretty decent deal on one if I recall correctly.  I've also had great luck with UTG rails.  I've run them on a few rifles and they're great quality for the dollars and made right here in the USA.

ATLAS BT10-LW17. Not cheap by any stretch of the imagination, but its my favorite by far. Good luck finding one as they are very hard to keep in stock.

Ok....here's another question for you.......

On a carbine such as my Colt,  will a bipod with legs in the 9-13 inch range be in the way of anything when in the stored position and legs fully retracted?

Tx.....d/a

(This would be so much easier if there was a shop/store around here that carried some of this stuff, or at least had some ARs to handle.)

Ok.....I've just ordered a L1A2.

Now to decide how to attach it to the stock Colt hand guard.

Use the suggested #5, or somehow get a rail attached to the bottom of the hand guard.

Or replace with a Magpul hand guard, attached a short rail and then use the Harris 638.

Any other ideas?
