when changing from a h buffer to a standard carbine buffer, do you have to also change to a different buffer spring as well? or are all buffer springs the same?

I wouldn't change them.  The standard spring should function for each.

No there are springs with different rates available.

If you're trying to dial in your buffer weight, don't mess with springs at the same time.
You want one variable at a time, if you have a choice.

Don't mess with the springs.  Adding a heavier spring will counteract the effect of the heavier buffer when it comes to carrier bounce.  And especially don't change more than one thing at a time when you are trying something new.  Only have one thing at a time so if something fails, you know which part caused it.
