I have my AR sigted in at 50 yards open sights.

I put in my .22 CMMG conversion and i'm getting impact about 3.5 to 4 inches lower then the .223 bullets.

Is this normal at this distance?

I have the same problem. I'm curious to see what others say. My drop is probably closer to 6in drop at 65 yards, and groups are about 6in as well. Not very good CMMG out of a S&W M&P sport

Totally Normal.
You have a rifle sighted for a high power cartridge with high velocity.
Then you shoot a very low power round through and expect no change.

I have seen aim / zero changes from a rifle sighted with M855 then using wolf or PMC at 100yrds.
They were about 1in lower.

And FWIW, I wouldn't expect a .22 conversion kit to group that well through a 1/9 barrel as I susect the M&P is.  Even worse with a 1/8 or 1/7.  6" at 65 yards probably isn't out of the norm.  If you cruise into the rimfire area there are guys that have done a lot of monkeying with the conversions to see what kind of groups they can get.  Most end up with dedicated uppers or 1/12 barrels for the .22's

I have looked at the conversion forums. I was just hoping for a little better groups, say 3 in @ 60 yards. But POI was surprising. A 22lr doesn't have that kind of drop on it's own, it must be the combination of 1/8 twist and a conversion. Maybe the velocity is low do to the conversion and gas tube let gas to escape, that could cause excessive drop.
