Just installed a Magpul ASAP mount and somehow managed to mar the edge of my buffer tube. The spring retainer mechanism still works fine. Is that a cause for concern?

Also, by the time I was done I realized I forgot to install those tiny posts that come with the ASAP, but it also seems to be fine. Do they do anything?

Those tiny shims align the tube.
Do you have the original retaining plate that you replaced with the ASAP?
If you look at it, you'll notice it has a tiny little notch on it that aligns on tube.

I would put the shim in, as it keeps it from rotating.

By the way, I don't know how badly you marred it as you didn't show a picture.
If you're talking about just the lip of the tube, I would said you're fine, specially if everything works fine as you said.

Those "tiny posts" keep the buffer tube from rotating if the castle nut comes loose. I highly suggest you install that part, tighten the castle nut to correct spec and then properly stake the ASAP/castle nut.

Yes, it is just the lip of the buffer tube. I smoothed down all of the edges as best I could.

I will reinstall the post.

Thank you.

Dude, I've done that with mine also.
Sounds like you over tightened it.
It's a non-issue.

By the way, if you're not comfortable with staking you can use blue loctite.

Those tiny little shims is only the first reason I will never purchase another of these. I also don't enjoy a sliding loop clanging about when attempting to hunt. Clearly someone likes this bit as they sell a ton of them, but I'm not among the lovers.
